Veterinary drug residues
In the body: no agency opinion we hold names an effect at the amounts found in food, so it is shown for context, not rated.
Not rated by dose: a flag on one reviewed food, Tilapia, cooked.
Background. Shown, not scored: no dose basis at normal intake, a classification rather than a risk, or legal limits only.
The reference value and where it comes from
- The agency’s figureno agency dose value
- Basisresidues of veterinary drugs and banned dyes (fluoroquinolones, phenicols, tetracyclines, sulfonamides, nitrofurans, malachite and gentian violet) in farmed fish; CFIA monitors against Canada's own action levels; no health-based intake value used

Reviewed foods that carry it
1 reviewed food carries it; none is rated by dose.
How often you can eat it ?
No food here is rated by dose. Each line says why it’s listed: a flag for the people the source names, advice on handling it, or context.

CFIA chemical residue monitoring (2016–2023) · grade B ?
How it’s rated
Context only: no health-based value used; screens are qualitative positives against Canada's monitoring (a screen positive is not a confirmed violation (the pack records 0 violations); Canada authorises only drugs with a Health Canada MRL for fish, and a 2002 Health Canada report called fluoroquinolones unapproved in food animals (dated; current status for fish not confirmed)). Not scored.
Intake: farmed (mostly imported) tilapia
Measured on: CFIA NCRMP annex 2022-23, commodity "Finfish - aquaculture": imports n=164 fluoroquinolone screens, 14 positive; phenicols 6 of 147; tetracyclines 8 of 155; sulfonamides 1 of 147; nitrofurans 0 of 108; nitroimidazoles, steroids, stilbenes 0; gentian violet 1 of 20 (0.4 ng/g), leucogentian violet 2 of 20 (mean of positives 0.325, max 0.4 ng/g), leucomalachite green 3 of 20 (mean of positives 0.09, max 0.12 ng/g); no violations recorded. Domestic farmed finfish: every screen negative (n up to 61). Tilapia is not named: the annex does not split species in the pack.
